Organizations Overview

The Heike Monogatari Study Group (Heike Monogatari Study Group)
The Heike Monogatari Study Group is a study group held with the aim of conveying to the next generation the traditional music "Heike (平家琶, Heike Biwa)" that tells the story of Heike in Biwa. In response to the call of the Todo Music Preservation Society (represented by Haruko Nobita), Yuji Kikuo, Naoichi Tanaka, and Shogo Hiyoshi started their activities in February 2015, and have been conducting research to master the Heike family that has been handed down by blind musicians. In fiscal 2016, the band was selected as one of the Agency for Cultural Affairs' "Project to Cultivate Emerging Artists to Create the Next Generation of Culture," and held its debut concert in April 2017 after mastering all eight of the current traditional songs. Currently, in addition to further refining the performance of traditional songs, he is also working on the restoration of songs that have lost their tradition, and continues the series "The World of Heike Monogatari: Passing the Tradition of Storytelling to the Next Generation."
