Performance content

Hokusai and his apprentice's art battle begins!
In this exhibition, we will select from the museum's collection, exhibit works drawn by Hokusai and his apprentices on the same theme, and explore the characteristics and influences of each style as we compare the two.

200 people including grandpupils!?
Hokusai is well known to be a big name representing Edo's ukiyoe artist, but it is not well known that Hokusai had as many as 200 apprentices, including his grandson's pupils.
According to Hokusai's biography "Katsushika Hokusaiden" by Iijima Imagination, a pioneer of ukiyo-e research, Hokusai was not the type to take steps to his apprentices, but he seems to have drawn out the abilities of his disciples and nurtured many virtuosos.
In this exhibition, approximately 100 works by teachers, Hokusai and 20 apprentices will be exhibited from the museum's collection.
